Visualized Search Engines

Visualized search engines contain the common goal of giving you a preview of the site or giving you a visual representation of the data before going to the site.

Without a doubt, the top 3 visualized search engines are Alexa, PageBull and Snap. In one way or another they provide thumbnails sketches or pictures by every search result.

alexa.gif Alexa - provides a small picture by every search result, but also gives traffic statistics for each site.

pagebull.gif PageBull - shows only massive images of each site in the search results, but when hovered over (by the mouse), the description and site title are revealed.

snap.jpeg Snap - provides search results, but then requires the user to click or select a search result to see its image.  Homepage is also distracting and does not focus enough on search.

KartOO - meta-search.

SearchCrystal

Quintura

These are just a few to mention and hopefully more will be added.

  1. On Snap.com you should try our “enhanced web search” tab. We deliver large previews of every web page (we have the largest web page image library int he world) which you can surf by using your arrow keys or scroll wheel.

On our home page, sorry our efforts to promote publisher products is distracting. I see your point there.

    Thanks

  2. The “enhanced web search” is certainly interesting but it did not work on my Mac OSX but did work on Windows. I think a few bugs still need to be worked out with Snap.com before its a major success.

Although, I’d have to say Snap.com has been great at creating a “buzz” for their site and promoting it.
